Thanks to a bit of architectural
wizardry, and some lavish landscaping
efforts, each of the unique 23 units
seems like a separate, detached cottage.
Some are in fact, single units. Others
are in duplex and triplex
configurations.
The furnishings at La Mirage are an
eclectic blend of local and European
pieces; all distinctive, yet cozy. There
are fireplaces in all of the rooms and
suites. Staff come by after dark to
light a welcome fire and warm the chilly
Andean evening.
Guest facilities at La Mirage include
a tennis court and the elegant
Mirage Spa Center - complete with solar
heated indoor pool, steam bath,

serious flower sniffing. Bird feeders
placed around the gardens give guests
the opportunity to watch for about 8
different species of hummingbirds.
Horseback riding is available, as well
as mountain bikes. The surroundings are
easily accessible for hiking and
trekking.

restaurant has an
exceptionally fine reputation - not only
in Ecuador, but beyond. Ecuadorian
specialties and international gourmet
cuisine are superbly prepared and served
in quiet elegance by local servers, who
wear their traditional colorful
embroidered blouses, long blue skirts
and beaded gold necklaces - the original
dress of the Otavalo Indians. In the
morning, they also serve in the hotel's
Glass Breakfast Pavilions on the lawn -
the loveliest experience
imaginable.
