Galapagos Safari Camp

Lodge - Galapagos Safari Camp - Santa Cruz IslandThe Galapagos Archipelago is one of the last places on the planet relatively untouched by man.  With 3-percent of the landmass inhabited, the islands support a remarkable ecosystem and have one of the planet’s most important marine reserves.

The "Enchanted Islands", as they are otherwise known, lie at the crossroads between science, nature, literature and exploration.

The Galapagos has become an easier, more accessible destination. Galapagos Safari Camp provides an authentic inland experience by offering luxury safari tents in an exclusive natural environment, both as an alternative or in addition to a sea-based travel itinerary.

Our Eco Camp

Tents - Galapagos Safari Camp - Santa Cruz IslandGalapagos Safari Camp is a 55-hectare farm in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island bordering the national park, 30-minutes from the sea.  The farm is rich in bird life with finches, warblers, mockingbirds, Galapagos doves, egrets and owls - tortoises also make frequent visits.  The farm has many local species of trees, such as Scalesia, Guayabillo, and Palo Santo which are rapidly regaining a foothold after years of cattle farming.

Tent Interior - Galapagos Safari Camp - Santa Cruz Island

The camp has 8 luxury safari tents perched on a hill, providing comfort and privacy in the wilderness.  All tents have a balcony with views of the park and the ocean - they are spacious, attractively decorated, and each has a private bathroom, with hot shower and toilet.  Guests can gather by the fireplace in the main room to view the sunsets, taste our chef's creative dishes that cater for the international palate in the panoramic dining room or enjoy the tranquility of the infinity pool with fabulous ocean scenery.

Travel and Useful Information

Salon Fireplace and Dining Room - Galapagos Safari Camp - Santa Cruz IslandGetting to Ecuador: there are direct daily flights from the US and Europe to Ecuador, both to the capital Quito and to Guayaquil.

Getting to Galapagos: there are daily flights from Quito and Guayaquil to Baltra and San Cristobal with TAME and AEROGAL.  All are morning flights and early booking is recommended.

Getting to Galapagos Safari Camp: you can be met at Baltra airport by a member or staff/driver upon request.  It is a short ride to the canal which joins Baltra to Santa Cruz and the crossing takes 5-minutes, followed by a 40-minute drive to the farm.

Rainbow Over Pool - Galapagos Safari Camp - Santa Cruz IslandWeather: the warmest months are December to June, and this period is known as the "rainy season"; showers tend to be strong followed by clear skies and long sunny periods.  The water temperature is pleasant and the sea calm.  July to November is known as the garúa (which translates as fine drizzle) season.  There is little rain during this period but the permeating drizzle makes everything wet, although there are some sunny spells, water and atmospheric temperatures are lower with some sunny spells.  Galapagos Safari Camp is 400 meters above sea level which means that the temperature is a little lower, particularly nice during the hot period and very few mosquitoes!

What to bring: hats, good walking shoes, sandals, sunglasses, bathing costumes and sun protection are always needed.  During the hotter months mosquito repellent is handy and for the garua season waterproofs are a necessity.
