Rafting Tour - 3-Days / 2-Nights

Huasquila Amazon Lodge
is an exclusive ecotourism complex of bungalows located in the Sacred Valley of Cotundo within the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve where the eastern slope of the Andes ends and the Amazon basin begins.  This unique location allows us to offer different activities from jungle hikes to caving or discovering the rivers of the Amazon while rafting.  Always seeking to offer new and innovative tours, we have developed a partnership with Huasquila and offer this combined program to help our guests get the most out of their visit to the Amazon.

Day-1:

Motorized Canoe - Yachana Lodge - EcuadorAfter breakfast we will leave Yachana and take a canoe downriver 5-minutes to the community of Agua Santa.  Here we will take a private bus/van to Huasquila Amazon Lodge.  Along the way we drive through the core zone of the Sumaco National Park, very famous and well known by birdwatchers.  We can make one stop to try our luck looking for exotic birds.  Upon arrival to Huasquila Amazon Lodge, we will first enjoy a welcome cocktail with Cecilia, our operations manager.

After lunch we will visit the Jumandy Caves where we will be able to see stalagmites and stalactites that have formed over time and will also have the opportunity to discover the legend from the Jumandy Indian Warrior.  While exploring the caves we can observe some baths and will also have to swim through a small pond.  Drive back to Huasquila and dinner.

Day-2:

Early breakfast at 7:30 am before we leave to the town of Tena, where we will meet our rafting crew.  We will get the safety instructions and prepare a little before we go to the actual place where we will start our 23-km rafting tour.  This tour starts at the Llanganates National Park and ends at the Napo River, the biggest tributary to the Amazon River.  In the first two hours we will learn how to paddle, work in a group and have lots of fun. Then we will take a lunch break on the shore of the river on a sandy beach and relax a little.  After this we continue our rafting adventure towards the Rio Napo and end the tour here.  This is a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Amazon jungle through its rivers.  Drive back to Huasquila and dinner.

Day-3:

Breakfast and drive back to Quito with possible short stops along the way.

Rafting Tour Add-On - Jatunyacu River Class III - 2-Days/1-Night

Jatunyacu means "Big Water" in Kichwa.  "Big" is probably the best word to describe this river - Big Waves and Big Fun! This is a great trip for both beginners and experts alike and offers the perfect combination of exciting rapids, calm pools and fabulous jungle scenery. Being the headwaters of one of the two rivers that form the mighty Amazon River, this is a rafting adventure that should not be passed up!

Day-1:

Motorized Canoe - Yachana Lodge - EcuadorLeave Yachana after lunch and take a canoe upriver 20-minutes to the community of Los Ríos.  From there you will travel for approximately two hours to Tena, capital of the Napo province, in a private vehicle. Along the way you will pass through several Kichwa communities and have the opportunity to observe the people going about their daily lives.  Your driver will drop you off at your hostel/hotel and you have the rest of the afternoon and evening free to explore this quaint, jungle town.

Day-2:

After breakfast you will be picked up at 8:30 AM at Café Tortuga located close to the pedestrian bridge on the river’s edge.  You’ll then head out into the jungle for about 45-minutes to the put-in site near the village of Cando.

Before setting off you will be fitted with a life jacket and helmet, given a comprehensive safety briefing, be introduced you to your guide, and then train with your team in the paddling techniques needed to navigate your way down the river. Once ready the boat will push off from shore and within moments you will find yourself being drenched in the first rapids, Pimpilala being one of the biggest.  After this first shot of adrenaline the fun continues as you crash through walls of whitewater, explore a hidden canyon, drift silently along sheer river cliffs, and take a swim in the refreshing waters.

During the trip you’ll stop on an expansive beach by the side of the river for a delicious picnic lunch that includes fresh tropical fruits and is served with soft drinks, juice and water.  At the end of the trip, celebrate a great day out with a few ice-cold beers or sodas. The drive from the take-out back to Tena takes about ten minutes.  Arrival time is approximately 4:00 PM but may be earlier or later depending on the river level.  At 5:00 PM depart Tena to return to Quito
