near "El Pucara del Salitre", a strategic military fortress from the old Inca Empire. This "fort" was used to monitor the "incanes" or roads that led to the Amazon rainforest and to the Latacunga valley.

 Cotopaxi
volcano is the highest active volcano in the world and is
perpetually snow-capped. It is located in Cotopaxi
National Park, whose entrance is only a short distance from the
farmhouse. The photo at right was taken along side the
road a few minutes drive by four-wheel drive vehicle from the
farmhouse. Notice the level of the clouds relative to the
peak and Cotopaxi's "eye", an area of exposed rock
near the peak that appears only on the South side of the
volcano.

several volcanoes
that surround the hacienda. Limpiopungo (or "open door") lake in the
foreground is located in Cotopaxi National Park. This is the perfect place to take breathtaking pictures of Cotopaxi, Sincholagua, and Rumiñahui, and to admire
some of the most beautiful sights in Ecuador.
