This is the place that was featured in the
Jan/Feb 1999 issue of BirdWatcher's Digest magazine. They called
the Observation Tower "The Stairway to Heaven".
How would you describe a tower built around a living Kapok tree,
130 feet tall with a 30 foot base?
The
pictures do a good job . . .
but the reality is awesome! You literally get a bird's eye view
of the jungle canopy!

| And speaking
of birds, the birdwatcher's list of "The Birds and
Mammals of Sacha Lodge" contains 565 entries of birds
alone, along with over 100 mammals! Also, the Yasuni
Parrot Lick is nearby, where
multitudes of parrots go for a taste of salt. You don't have to
be a birdwatcher to be impressed! |

| Sacha Lodge
is the home of one of the largest
butterfly
farms in
Ecuador. They breed nearly 40 local species for exhibition and
export.

| When you
aren't touring the surrounding jungle, observing, learning and
enjoying, there are enough creature
comforts (laundry,
24 hour electricity, ceiling fans, king size beds) here to
reassure you that you haven't left all civilization behind.

On the other
hand, this nature resort adventure requires that you make a
flight from Quito to Coca (in a plane smaller than most of the
airliners that you may be used to),
2 canoe trips (one
is 2 hours long), and a mile-long jungle hike to get there. You
will be seeing amazing sights in the process, but if you are not
as physically fit or as comfortable with these modes of travel
as some are, then you really need to call us first and talk to
someone who has been there. Because . . .
