Otavalo – Salinas – Otavalo

Visit Imbabura, the most diverse province of Ecuador.  From Otavalo, home of the country’s largest Indigenous market, to Salinas, where the culture and history of Afro-Ecuadorians is alive and present in its streets, Tren de la Libertad takes you through the history, music, gastronomy, crafts and the amazing landscapes of northern Andes.

You will find unique experiences in San Roque, Andrade Marin, San Antonio, Ibarra, Hoja Blanca and Salinas de Ibarra stations, in a trip full of contrasts. 

*On Friday is also possible to take the Otavalo – Ibarra – Otavalo program on board a vintage “Chiva-style” motor track.

Schedule:

08:00 to 18:00 For Otavalo - Salinas - Otavalo
11:00 to 17:55 For Otavalo - Ibarra - Otavalo

Passengers must arrive 30 minutes before departure time. 
 

What is included? 

Train ticket, guidance through the journey, snack onboard, snacks at destinations, entrances to museums, lunch (only for Otavalo – Salinas – Otavalo program), museum tickets and other visits detailed in the itinerary, land transportation during the itinerary if necessary. 
 

What is not included? 

Additional expenses not detailed in the itinerary. On the Otavalo – Ibarra – Otavalo program, lunch is not included. 

Travel Tips

CLOTHING: A light jacket, walking shoes, hat, sunscreen (SPF 70 at least), sunglasses, camera, cash and insect repellant. 

ALTITUDE: It ranges from 1,600 to 2,200 meters above sea level. The temperature ranges from 14º a 25ºC.

IMPORTANT: The Otavalo station has no parking but there are paid public parking lots in the area (El Jordan Mall on Atahualpa street). Otavalo is 90 kilometers away from Quito and connected by the Pan American Highway and it takes 1:45 to 2:00 hours of travel time depending on traffic (especially heavy on weekends and holidays).
